Garden center
Those people who have a dream of owning a garden center
have a fine goal, but if they do not do everything in their power to
learn and prepare themselves, then the garden center may not be as successful
as they had hoped it would be. In order to have a successful garden
center, some of the things that you can do to increase your likelihood
for success include:
• Learn – Even if you have good business sense this will
not be enough to successfully own a garden center. Taking classes at
community centers or colleges is a good idea if you are hoping to learn
more about horticulture.
• Get a job – Specifically, get a job (or volunteer) at
a nursery or a landscaping company. This will give you an insider’s
look at the business that will be invaluable when you open up your garden
center.
• Get growing – If you plan to sell your own merchandise
from your garden center, you will need to soon start to plant your own
plants and trees if you want to be able to turn a profit on them a few
months down the road.
Of course, there are all kinds of legal requirements that must be met
if you plan to create and run your own garden center, but those things
are secondary to you simply being able to get yourself in the proper
frame of mind to be able to be successful and enjoy the work you will
do in your garden center.
